The Elimination Diet : Find What You Are Allergic To In 7 Days
Frank: As a chef I encounter endless diet restrictions. When it’s all said and done I have heard about the allergies, soy or gluten free, even dairy. They all have their problems but Max is someone I rarely encounter. A person that tries everything as long as he has a trusty GT Dave’s Kombucha by his side or Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar Drink. These two drinks help his digestion system take care of some of the harmful bacterias or other things that Max’s body can’t handle as well. I suggest trying these drinks out to help small digestive issues an average person may encounter…
Max: My stomach has been acting up for the last few days. Frank suggest I go on a raw diet for a few month to reset everything that’s going on in my stomach. I have never gotten tested for the food allergies I have.
Recently I have come across a diet that can help assist in limited what I may be allergic to. It’s called the elimination diet. This simple way to test for a possible food allergy/ sensitivity. I have been told over and over again. “If you suspect you might have a food allergy, there’s no time like the present to find out.”
While there are lots of way to do elimination diets the one that I have been mind for myself. Involves one journal/ notebook, 7 days of allergy free meals and all list of food allergens you are to test yourself for. It is easiest and best if you start with food that you may be already allergic to (i.e. gluten or dairy).
Use the notebook to track how you are feeling, after meals. Write down any symptoms you are having. That way it will allow you to track the symptoms you are having going away and anything else you may notice.
On the 8 day of the diet start re-adding the food you may suspect and we suggest also making an appointment with your doctor to confirm.
It’s Important to Keep in Mind:
- Read all ingredient labels (Some allergens are hidden in ingredients)
- It’s good to ask questions especially if you are going to be eating out on the few days you are testing. Be a food detective, make sure you ask about all the ingredients. Ask how the food is cooked, what ingredients are it and make any necessary substitutions or removals (if possible).
DISCLAIMER: You should consult with your doctor before removing any foods from your diet. In no way is an elimination diet a replacement for officially confirming a food allergy with your doctor.
