I take 2 splices of bread. I take 2 slices of cheese. The anticipation of the crispy first bite and pull away of melted cheese has my mouth watering. I am talking about the one and only grilled cheese. It’s a go to for kids of all ages and parents as well. Our country’s obsession with the luxurious sandwich has pressed out some serious creations. From stuffed grilled cheeses, bizarre ketchup to grape jelly grilled cheese, not my cup of tea. Naturally, Max and myself want to share our favorite grilled cheeses. Max’s favorites were the simple kinds, as he had not really experimented making grill cheese in the past.
What We Used For Our Grilled Cheese
My favorite grilled cheese is one of culinary perfection. It starts with two thick slices of fresh baked brioche. Then I take three large piles of shredded gruyere, smoked gouda and fontina cheeses. Where’s the meat? It’s between it all. Three slices of Jamón ibérico, a supreme delicacy too everyone and something everyone should try in their lifetime. Finally I like herbs, no I love fresh herbs! A mixture of herb de provence (thyme, tarragon, rosemary and parsley). This all comes together because of one extra ingredient, aioli.
Max’s Taste:
When I think about a grilled cheese sandwich, I tend to think about to my pre-school days. The choices for grill cheese sandwiches were either American or Swiss. I asked Frank to break down his favorite grilled cheese but for adult’s. I was excited to try this grilled cheese. At first bite, I already knew this was next level eating. Each bite a little piece of heaven.
I could not tell the difference between mayo or butter when I tasted them both. I really enjoy the thickness of the bread and it works well. I did not taste any grease or oily taste. The herbs really add dimension. I think Frank’s face says it all in the video when you watch him take that first bite. In addition I woke up this morning and the first thing I thought about was last night’s grilled cheese.
